Dr. Dawn Cartee Recognized
As Alumna of the Year

Dr. Dawn H. Cartee, President of Ogeechee Technical College, was recently recognized as the Alumna of the Year for the College of Education at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.  Dr Cartee received her doctorate in Educational Administration in 2005 and also holds an Educational Specialist, Master's Degree and Bachelor of Business Administration, all from Georgia Southern.

Dr. Cartee is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including being named one of Georgia Trend Magazine's 40 under 40 for 2005.  She's a graduate of the 2003 Class of Leadership Bulloch, 2004 Class of Leadership Southeast Georgia and was accepted for the 2007 Class of Leadership Georgia.

She also has the distinction of being only one of 40 international participants invited to join the 2003 Oxford Round Table at St. Anthony College, Oxford University, England. Dr. Cartee is active in community service projects, an annual volunteer for A Day For Southern, and many other community service activities.  

In announcing the Alumna of the Year Award, Dr. Cindi Chance, Dean of the College of Education stated, “Dawn is smart, dedicated to the profession of teaching and a strong supporter of the College of Education and Georgia Southern.  We are extremely proud to have her as an alumna and to present her as the COE Alumna of the Year.”

Dr. Cartee has served as President of Ogeechee Technical College since January 1, 2007 and previously held the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs at Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia.  About the award she stated, “It is a distinct honor to be recognized by the College of Education at Georgia Southern.  GSU holds a special place in my heart, and I am humbled to receive such a prestigious award.”  Dr. Cartee and her husband Jamey make their home in Statesboro.
