Agribusiness and GIS Students
Ogeechee Technical College instructors Elliott Marsh and John Locke recently accompanied students on a field trip to Boddiford Farms in Screven County. Joe Boddiford uses the Precision Ag approach to farming, which includes Geographic Positioning Systems, Machine Control systems, and Laser-based tools, all in support of cutting edge processes which help improve productivity and efficiency in today’s farming operations. While students are exposed to classroom and lab experiences, first-hand knowledge of an actual farming operation is beneficial in helping students more fully understand the implications of learned academic theories. “There are great advantages to showing students first-hand how their classroom study can translate into an actual farming operation,” according to Marsh. “Mr. Boddiford has long been a supporter of our program, and allowing these field trips is a great way for him to continue his support,” Marsh concluded.
