DTAE & CompTIA: Membership
for All Technical Colleges

CompTIA is an organization that helps govern and generate industry standard certifications for the field of CIS (Computer Information Systems).  Some of those certifications include A+, Network+, Security+, all of which are highly sought after CIS certifications.  In the CIS field of study, letters such as A+ and Network+ demonstrate a level of skill and have helped students achieve better success, pay, quicker promotion and more.

Terry Hand, CIS instructor for Ogeechee Technical College, spent many hours working with CompTIA and DTAE in hopes to acquire membership discounts on a school-by-school basis, but with the help of Laurel Shugart, DTAE Central Purchasing, Lorri Christopher, DTAE IFCC CIS Consortium Chair, and Alan Rowland, CompTIA, a deal was struck with DTAE to cover all 34 technical colleges.  On February 26, 2007, the DTAE paid $6,000 for all 34 technical colleges to receive membership with CompTIA.

The benefits of this membership allow for up to 50% discounts on CompTIA certifications, a huge savings for students throughout the state of Georgia, thus encouraging students to try and attempt more credentialed exams.  Instructors also get one free certification a year, helping to encourage faculty to seek more credentials as well.  In the previous years many schools failed to budget for the $890 individual price to join CompTIA, and they were missing out on the benefits of membership.  Thanks to DTAE, all schools can now receive the full benefits.  In short, it goes a long way in showing that one person, through hard-work and determination, can make a difference.
