OTC Assists Displaced Workers

Several local organizations combined efforts recently to offer assistance to a number of displaced workers from Briggs and Stratton’s Statesboro plant.  Due to unavoidable staff reductions at the local plant, a number of workers were in need of guidance in pursuing new career paths.

Brings and Stratton, the Georgia Department of Labor, several local industries, and Ogeechee Technical College joined together to provide a workshop to help educate the displaced workers on employment opportunities, and the opportunities for new career training available through Ogeechee Tech.  A presentation was made to two groups of 20, in addition to an on-site visit to Briggs and Stratton by OTC representatives for an additional 30 workers.  It is the goal of Ogeechee Technical College to provide guidance and training which will allow the displaced workers to find employment in a variety of career paths.
