Ogeechee Tech Foundation Board

John E. Martin, Sr., M.D., F.A.C.S. has joined the Executive Board of the Ogeechee Tech Foundation, Inc.  In making the announcement, Ogeechee Technical College President, Dr. Dawn Cartee, expressed her excitement in having someone with Dr. Martin’s credentials and experience join the Foundation Executive Board. “It is gratifying to have someone with Dr. Martin’s background take the time to work with our Foundation,” Dr. Cartee stated.  “Johnny brings a wealth of knowledge about many subjects, especially medical related issues,” Dr. Cartee further explained. “With so many of our programs being in the medical field, having someone with expertise in those areas is a great advantage,” concluded Dr. Cartee.

Dr. Martin has a long history of involvement in the local medical community where he joined the medical staff of the local hospital 20 years ago.  Aside from a successful private practice for many years, Dr. Martin previously served as Director of Medical Education at OTC prior to joining the East Georgia Regional Medical Center Comprehensive Wound Healing Center.  “My time spent at Ogeechee Tech helped me to gain a clear vision of the needs of medical education at the technical college level,” stated Dr. Martin.  “Medical programs are so prevalent at OTC that having a physician involved is very logical to help relate the needs of the medical programs to the health care community,” Dr. Martin explained.  Ogeechee Tech Foundation members help garner support from the community to benefit educational initiatives at the college.  A number of local business and professional people serve on the Foundation Executive Board and Board of Directors.
Beth Mathews, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement at OTC, commented on Dr. Martin’s addition to the Executive Board.  “What an advantage for us to have Dr. Martin working with our Foundation,” said Ms. Mathews.  “He brings an element of understanding about our mission that will be unmatched in the medical community and beyond,” Mathews further commented.  “There are so many cutting edge programs at OTC that parallel the medical advances that we are experiencing today,” Dr. Martin stated.  “Electronic information in medical applications, for example, is the wave of the future and OTC is already addressing the needs of the medical community in that regard,” commented Dr. Martin.  “With the support of the Foundation, Ogeechee Tech can be assured of continued success in meeting the needs of students who will then meet the employment demands of the medical community,” Dr. Martin said.  “I am excited to be able to offer my support, not only to OTC and its students, but to the medical profession in general,” Dr. Martin further commented.  “What is good for medical education is ultimately good for patients,” he concluded.  Dr. Martin’s addition to the Foundation is timely in that the Foundation annual campaign for supporting OTC programs is in May.  “Our annual campaign for community support will be enhanced by Dr. Martin’s addition to our Executive Board,” Ms. Mathews stated.
