Ogeechee Tech Students Assist
Ogeechee Technical College Practical Nursing and Emergency Medical Technician students recently participated in a ‘mass casualty’ drill at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Drills are conducted periodically to help the hospital’s employees and other agencies such as Emergency Medical Service, Fire Department, and Law Enforcement, be prepared in the event of an actual multiple-casualty episode. Ogeechee Tech nursing students participated in the drill by posing as ‘victims’ of the simulated disaster. OTC EMS Program Director Karen Grabenstein assisted, along with some of the EMT students, by helping make-up the ‘victims’ to simulate real injuries. EMT students also assisted in providing triage for the ‘victims’. The activity was educational for the students because it helped them understand what it feels like to be a patient, while also allowing them to witness a mass casualty event. Contact: Barry Turner |
