Effingham Students Visit Ogeechee Tech

Students get experience ‘drawing blood’ from a training arm.

Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) recently hosted 24 high school seniors, all of whom are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.  The students and several instructors, counselors and administrators toured a variety of health programs at OTC, and actually had the opportunity for hands-on experience in several areas.  Students got to package ‘medicines’, draw ‘blood’, use a dental camera, and examine basic surgical instruments while dressed in surgical attire.  In addition, they watched a demonstration of ‘patient’ placement in the Radiologic Technology lab.  Each of the program areas provided information useful to the students in determining which area of healthcare they may wish to pursue.  Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Jessie Strickland, commented on the students visit by saying, “We love hosting high school students on our campus.  What better way for young people to decide which career path they wish to pursue than taking part in actual activities related to training for a variety of programs?”  Lue Healy, Effingham County High School counselor, requested the visit and stated, “Ogeechee Tech has so many programs to offer and we always get such good cooperation from the college.  We thought it very important to give our students exposure to the career path training available at OTC.”

Ogeechee Tech has a vast array of medical related training programs from which to choose, and the students had the opportunity to learn about many of the possibilities for future success that OTC has to offer.  For more information on medical education at Ogeechee Tech, visit www.ogeecheetech.edu.
