Ogeechee Tech Board

Ms. Emelyn T. Hunter of Sylvania has joined the Board of Directors of Ogeechee Technical College following a swearing-in ceremony at the September 19, 2007 Board of Directors meeting in Statesboro. Ms. Hunter replaces Screven County Board representative David Burke following the expiration of his term on the Board. and OTC President Dr. Dawn Cartee following the swearing-in ceremony on September 19.

Dr. Dawn Cartee, President of Ogeechee Technical College, praised Ms. Hunter’s dedication to the Screven County community and commented on her appointment to the OTC Board by saying, “Emelyn has been very active in Sylvania and Screven County for many years and that sort of dedication is what we are looking for in a Board member for Ogeechee Tech.  In addition, we want our representatives from Screven County to have a finger on the pulse of activity there so that they may better advise our college on how we may best serve our constituents there.”  “We are very happy to have Emelyn Hunter join our Board, and we acknowledge the sacrifice and commitment that it takes to accept this appointment,” Dr. Cartee further stated.

Following a brief swearing-in by Judge Gates Peed, Ms. Hunter immediately entered a Board of Directors meeting and began the business of helping direct the activities of the college.  “I am honored to have been asked to join the Ogeechee Tech Board.  The college means so much to our region, and I am anxious to do whatever I can to help support the programs at the college as we move forward in improving the lives of those in the college’s service area,” Hunter stated.  Commenting on the programs available at the college, Hunter said, “After taking a tour of the main campus I am amazed at the number of programs offered.  The facilities, equipment, and instructors all seem geared toward helping students and that is exactly what a college should be about.”

Hunter joins a local Board of Directors that includes members from Bulloch, Evans, and Screven Counties which represent the official service area of Ogeechee Technical College.  For more information about Ogeechee Tech, visit www.ogeecheetech.edu.
