Adult Education Students Support On Thursday, April 12, 2007, the adult education students at the Ogeechee Technical College Evans County campus sponsored a literacy and math activity for 57 three, four, and five-year old children enrolled in the Evans County Head Start program. After being read the story, Caterpillar’s Wish, the children were able to dress-up as the characters in the book and re-enact the story. They also learned how to separate objects into two groups and how to repeat a pattern by making their own caterpillars from brown and yellow pom-poms. A caterpillar tunnel for the children to crawl through and refreshments completed the activity. Not only did the children have a good time and the opportunity to gain some important reading and math skills, but the adult education students also had a chance to do something for others in their community. Because the activity was so successful, plans are being made for future literacy and math programs between OTC/Evans Adult Education and Head Start. ![]() Evans County Head Start children enjoy dressing up Contact: Barry Turner |
