Rad Tech Students
On Thursday, November 29, students of the Radiologic Technology (Rad Tech) program at Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) presented Ogeechee Area Hospice with a donation of books for children dealing with grief. The author, Haley O’Hayer, was 15 years old when she wrote the book about the shocking murder of her 21 year old brother in Savannah. Haley was 12 at the time of her brother’s death. With few options available to her for dealing with grief as a child, Haley set out to write a simple story about a butterfly named Joey who is fatally stung by a jealous bee. Haley’s aunt, Lynda Tinker, Ogeechee Tech Rad Tech Instructor says, “Haley wrote the book to help other children deal with grief and to also help work through her own grief”. The book was written as a Girl Scout project in which Haley was given a Gold Award. Fortunately for many children, this book will comfort them through a difficult time in their lives. Representatives of Ogeechee Area Hospice included Charlotte Edwards, LCSW; Brenda Bird, RN-Inpatient Center Coordinator; and Julie Harrison, Clinical Education Specialist. Rad Tech student, Kelly Henry, read the book to a group of faculty, staff and students including Dr. Dawn Cartee, OTC President; Dr. Jessie Strickland, Vice President for Academic Affairs at OTC; and Dr. Gayle Tremble, Dean for Academic Affairs at OTC.
