Ogeechee Tech’s Thompson Named to Leadership Georgia Board of Trustees

Dr. Ben Thompson, Vice President for Economic Development at Ogeechee Technical College has been named to the Board of Trustees of Leadership Georgia.  According to the Leadership Georgia website, “The LEADERSHIP GEORGIA program is an educational experience rather than a program of advocacy.  It deals with issues confronting our state.  Five meetings are scheduled at different locations in the state and consist of two days each in January, March, May, September, and November.” Leadership Georgia is a prestigious 35-year-old organization of community leaders.

An affiliate of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the organization trains and builds a network of emerging young leaders from across the state. Past participants include a number of influential state and national leaders ranging from former U.S. Senator Sam Nunn to University of Georgia Athletic Director Vince Dooley.   Thompson is an alumnus of the Leadership Georgia program, having participated in the program in 2005 and as Program Chair in 2006. He served as Chair of the Leadership Bulloch program in 2005 and as Chair of the Leadership Southeast Georgia Planning Committee from 2002 to 2005.  He was named as one of Georgia Trend’s “40 under 40” in 2003.

Approximately 60 individuals, chosen from a pool of several hundred applicants from around the State of Georgia, participate in the program each year.  The 17 member Board of Trustees oversees the project.  Thompson, who will serve a three year term on the board, has the distinction of being the first person to represent Bulloch County on the Board in the organizations 35 year history. A current member of the State Bar of Georgia, Environmental Law Section, Dr. Thompson has previously served on the Board of Directors for the Statesboro-Bulloch Chamber of Commerce.

In commenting on the appointment, Thompson stated, “It is an honor to be asked to serve Leadership Georgia in this capacity.  I strongly believe in the benefit of the program, and I look forward to working with the organization to help develop strong leaders for Georgia in the future.”  To learn more about Leadership Georgia, visit ww.leadershipgeorgia.com, or to learn more about Ogeechee Technical College, visit www.ogeecheetech.edu.
