Ogeechee Tech Instructors Take Part
in Statewide Program

Four Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) instructors were recently chosen to represent the school at a three-day conference recognizing the state’s top technical educators.  OTC instructors Matthew Gainous, David Lavender, and Tina Welch joined Ogeechee Tech’s Instructor of the Year, Terry Hand, at the Lighthouse Institute September 11-13 in Augusta.

The Lighthouse Institute provides an opportunity for outstanding technical college classroom instructors to be recognized and rewarded for their dedication, hard work and excellence. The program also offers professional development by giving outstanding instructors an opportunity to share their effective teaching techniques and offering exposure to national innovators in teaching.  The college presidents and many of the vice presidents for academic affairs participate in the week’s events with the technical college instructors. The “Lighthouse” has been an ongoing statewide event since 1996.

Dr. Dawn Cartee, President of Ogeechee Tech commented, “We are very proud of all of our instructors, and especially those who have represented us well at Lighthouse.  Terry Hand did an outstanding job as our Instructor of the Year and Rick Perkins nominee from OTC”.

In addition to his responsibilities as OTC’s Instructor of the Year and candidate for the Rick Perkins award, Terry Hand has accepted nomination as the Computer Information Systems Chairperson for the Southeast Consortium of the Technical College System of Georgia.  “This will be a good chance for me to take part in an exchange of ideas about CIS, and instruction in general, on a state-wide level,” stated Terry Hand.  For more information on the CIS program, or any other program of study at Ogeechee Tech, visit www.ogeecheetech.edu.
