Dr. Jessie Strickland to Join Ogeechee Technical College

Dr. Dawn Cartee, President of Ogeechee Technical College, has announced that Dr. Jessie Strickland will be joining the college on July 1, 2007 as Vice President of Instructional Services.  Dr. Strickland’s appointment to the post follows an extensive search by an internal committee at the college.  The Vice President of Instructional Services (VPIS) coordinates the delivery of instruction for the college’s programs of study, including adult literacy within Bulloch, Evans, and Screven Counties. In addition, the VPIS is responsible for supervising library services and all academic components of program and/or institutional accreditation.  In making the announcement, Dr. Cartee stated, “I could not be more pleased with the search committee’s recommendation of Dr. Strickland.”  “With her background in both secondary and postsecondary education and her reputation for providing quality instruction and services to the Bulloch County school system, she will be fully capable of moving Ogeechee Tech’s instructional division to the next level.” Dr. Cartee further stated.

Dr. Strickland will join OTC following her departure from her current position as Superintendent of Schools for Bulloch County.  “While I am very proud of the accomplishments of the Bulloch County school system during my tenure as Superintendent, I am ready to move on to new challenges at the post-secondary level,” stated Dr. Strickland.  “I have a background that includes vocational instructional programs, and having the opportunity to provide a laser focus on instruction at this level is a great opportunity for me,” Dr. Strickland further commented.  Dr. Strickland expressed her desire to continue helping the local community in her new capacity at Ogeechee Tech. “I want to focus on student achievement and to provide our community with a better foundation for workforce development through quality graduates.”

In joining Ogeechee Technical College, Dr. Strickland will have the opportunity to continue working in what has been a rich career in education, both in Georgia and Tennessee.  “I would like to thank Dr. Cartee and the internal search committee for placing their confidence in me by offering me a wonderful opportunity to help Ogeechee Tech’s students and service area,” commented Dr. Strickland.  In summing up her feelings about the new appointment, Dr. Cartee stated, “I can not imagine anyone more qualified for this post.”  “Dr. Strickland will bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm that can only serve to improve the quality of education OTC provides its students,” Dr. Cartee concluded.  Dr. Strickland replaces former Vice President of Instructional Services, Dr. Gary Norsworthy, who will be retiring May 1, 2007.
