OTC Nursing Students
Sponsor Bloodmobile

Practical Nursing students at Ogeechee Technical College sponsored an American Red Cross Bloodmobile visit on June 1st at the college.  Students recruited participants from the college faculty, staff and students, but the visit was also open to community donors.  Nursing students assisted in registering donors as well as performing other support functions for the American Red Cross employees and community volunteers.  “This is a great way for our students to support the community while gaining some valuable insight and experience about blood donations,” stated Debbie King, Practical Nursing Program Director at OTC.  “So many health care procedures require blood and platelets and this is one way awareness can be raised with our students about the importance of encouraging donations.  Additionally the students get the clinical exposure of what it means to be a nurse working with the Red Cross,” Ms. King explained.

The Red Cross also sponsored a cook-out on the campus for those who participated in the drive, complete with grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, and other treats.  “We welcome the opportunity to provide this community service here at OTC,” Dr. Dawn Cartee, OTC president stated.  “It is always a win-win when we can help provide a valuable service to our area and expose our students to a clinical experience at the same time,” Dr. Cartee concluded.  For more information about Practical Nursing or other health related programs at Ogeechee Tech, visit the campus or the website at www.ogeecheetech.edu.
