Portal 8th Graders Visit Ogeechee Tech
Portal Middle/High School 8th Graders paid a visit to the Ogeechee Technical College campus on October 31st to learn about the potential for furthering their education after high school, as well as the possible career paths they may wish to pursue. In conjunction with the Stay in School initiative the middle school students were given tests to help determine their interest in a variety of careers, and tests to help determine each student’s level of academic proficiency. SIS coordinator Jeanne Anne Marsh stated, “It is important to show students at this age what sort of opportunities exist for them if they stay in school, graduate, and continue their education past high school. Our program demonstrates to students the vast array of interesting careers they may choose to pursue if they work hard and complete high school. It is all about increasing their choices for the future.” “Students tend to perform better academically in subjects which interest them. This program helps demonstrate the wide variety of career paths that are available to students here at Ogeechee Tech and will hopefully be a catalyst for the students to work hard to graduate high school to be capable of pursuing a rewarding career,” commented Dr. Jessie Strickland, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Ogeechee Tech. Ogeechee Tech conducts on-campus tours as well as program showcases for students at the middle and high school levels on a regular basis.
