OTC Opticianry Student Recognized

Angie Crowley, an Opticianry student at Ogeechee Technical College, was recently recognized by Vision Monday, a national professional magazine, as one of 2010’s Most Influential Women in Optical.  She was recognized as one of only 10 in the category of Opticianry Student, and was the only student from Georgia who received the honor.

Here is what Vision Monday’s had to say about Crowley.

Angie Crowley had been managing a cell phone store for many years and when it closed, she was determined to find something else. She happened to go to the eye doctor that week for her yearly checkup and found herself intrigued by the exam, with the doctor even commenting that she might consider the vision industry.

When she enrolled in Ogeechee Technical College, she signed up for the Opticianry program and with the encouragement of instructors Deborah Deloach and Scott Lloyd, she thrived.

Crowley was student representative on the Opticianry Advisory Committee, became a certified children’s vision screener, and was part of the National Technical Honor Society, graduating with honors. American Board of Opticianry-National Contact Lens Examiners certified, she is studying to get her state license this fall.

Crowley’s instructors agree that she is very hard working and is a non-traditional student in that she is older and returned to school after being out for many years. She is motivated to changing her life.—Vision Monday

Ogeechee Technical College president, Dr. Dawn Cartee, stated, “What a great honor for Angie!  Her hard work and dedication to her studies and her new profession have been recognized by the experts in her field.  She represents a perfect example of what Ogeechee Tech is about—giving people the skills to be successful in a great career.”
