Ogeechee Tech Participates in
Ogeechee Technical College Hotel/Restaurant/Tourism Management program director, John Witherington, and Culinary Arts student, Robert Edwards, recently teamed up to represent Ogeechee Tech at Downtown Statesboro’s First Friday. A Taste of Downtown was the theme for the event at which various food service establishments paired with downtown businesses and organizations to provide food samples to attendees at First Friday. Ogeechee Tech’s team was located in the main gallery of the Averitt Center for the Arts, where they dished out samples of shrimp and Tasso gravy served over grits with collard greens. The spicy dish was a hit with First Friday visitors. According to Witherington, participating in A Taste of Downtown was a good way to promote the College’s Hotel/Restaurant/Tourism Management and Culinary Arts programs. “A lot of people don’t realize the types of programs we have at Ogeechee Tech. This was a fun way to let them know about two of our programs, while also giving a student some good experience with a special event,” said Witherington. First Fridays are sponsored by the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority the first Friday of each month. For more information on Hotel/Restaurant/Tourism Management, Culinary Arts, or any of Ogeechee Tech’s programs, visit www.ogeecheetech.edu, or call (912) 681-5500. Contact: Barry Turner |
