Ogeechee Technical College Carpentry students recently assisted during the finishing phase of Habitat House #41 at Statesboro Pointe. The students took part in installing interior doors, baseboard molding, and window casings inside the home. The class was able to complete all finish carpentry activities in two afternoons. Their efforts enabled the project to stay on schedule and prepare the home for painting and floor coverings.
“This is a great way for the students to apply the competencies they learn each day in the classroom and laboratory. This activity was an extremely valuable experience for the students. It would be otherwise difficult to replicate these activities and varying conditions in a laboratory environment due to the magnitude and cost of such a project,” stated OTC Commercial Construction Management instructor, Charles Collins.
